Lack of support for the EQE from employers

Recently, I've been in touch with many, many EQE candidates regarding tutoring for the EQE.

The number of candidates informing me that they don't receive any kind of support from their employers for the EQE is seriously disturbing. No financial support, no courses, no extra time, nothing. I mean, either of these would work.

I assume these companies want 23-year-old qualified European Patent Attorneys with 5 years of experience with no family, without having to pay for their trainings. However, let's face it, this is not too realistic, is it?

Although the decision makers I am talking about are probably not on LinkedIn; but if you are one of them, please consider the following:

  • your employees are your most valuable assets,

  • you might have forgotten but studying while working full time is extremely hard,

  • your employee becoming a European Patent Attorney can help your company make more profit,

  • if your employee has to study 15-20 hours after working 40-60 hours for you, the quality of his/her work might decrease (which is bad for you).

However, having an employee with a better work-study balance and good mental health will most definitely increase their productivity. And, who knows, they might even enjoy these – otherwise stressful – years?
