How to start the

trademark process?

I know how hard you worked on your brand. The process of creating a new brand, creating a course, service or product, buying a domain name, and building a website can be time consuming. However, if you believe in your brand, do not stop yet. You will also need to apply for a trademark to protect your brand. Only a registered trademark will allow you to stop your competitors from copying you in the future.

Trademarking process

To file your trademark application to the UK Trademark Office or to the European Union Intellectual Property Office, the following information will be required:

  1. The brand name or logo you would like to protect

I can help trademark your brand name, company name, slogan, and logo as well. Most business owners file two trademark applications: one for the brand name and one for the logo. A word trademark provides you with the strongest right and broadest scope of protection, so if your budget only allows you to file one trademark application, I advise choosing the word trademark.

  2. A short description of the goods and/or services you are using (or planning to use) your trademark for

Why is this necessary? A trademark is always associated with certain goods and services that the trademark will be used on. Goods and services are classified into 45 specific classes based on an international agreement called the Nice Agreement. When filing a trademark, we have to specify the list of goods. The list will contain all those products and services which are covered by your trademark. The list of goods has to be prepared circumspectly as it cannot be amended after filing the trademark application. The more classes your application includes, the more expensive the filing fee.

  3. The name and the address of the applicant

Who will be the owner of the trademark? You as a natural person or your company? Regardless of what you choose, you can transfer your trademark to another natural or legal person later as well. Please note that the name(s) and address(es) of the trademark owner will be published in the trademark register.

  4. Your billing details

I need your billing name and address in order to prepare the invoice.

The process of obtaining a registered trademark might seem daunting. However, I am here to help you every step of the way.
